Core groups have been selected for the five multidisciplinary themes of the Strategy of the University of Turku. The core groups of the multidisciplinary themes are responsible for strengthening multidisciplinary research and education as well as their impact.

A summer job at church children’s camps changed the life of the upper secondary school student. Working with children sparked a desire to help and understand vulnerable children and young people. This eventually led Riikka Korja to become a professor of developmental psychology at the University of Turku. Her passion is to help not only the vulnerable, but also early career researchers and students.

Marjut Johansson, professeure des universités au Département de français, répond à nos questions. Sa recherche est axée sur l’analyse des interactions et la linguistique socioculturelle. En ce moment, Johansson dirige l’Institut des sciences du langage et de la traductologie à la Faculté des lettres de l’Université de Turku. 

Professor of social work Mia Hakovirta and Professor of child psychiatry André Sourander have received funding from NordForsk call Welfare among Children and Young People in the Post-Pandemic Nordics. Both projects examine the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the well-being of children and adolescents in the Nordic countries.

Visiting professors Fazal Rizvi and Marcelo Parreira do Amaral will give open lectures at the Faculty of Education. Professor Fazal Rizvi is speaking with title "Global Transformations and Education Policy. Reimagining Globalization and Education" on 12th October and Professor Marcelo Parreira do Amaral is speaking about Understanding the Business of  Education: A Challange for Education Research at 8th November. Both events are organised by Centre for Research on Lifelong Learning and Education.

Children born in December are almost twice as likely to be diagnosed with a learning disorder as those born in January. ADHD was found not to affect the association between month of birth and the likelihood of a learning disability diagnosis.
