Ceremonial Conferment of Faculty of Medicine Celebrates 152 Doctors and 5 Honorary Doctors – Participate in Honorary Doctors’ Public Lectures and Follow the Academic Procession
The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Turku is organising a ceremonial conferment of doctoral degrees on 26 May 2023. The Conferment Ceremony starts at noon at the Turku Concert Hall. The Academic Procession to the Cathedral can be followed starting from 3.30pm (if weather permits).
Risk of Developing Type 2 Diabetes Displayed in Early Pregnancy Blood Samples
Researchers from the University of Turku discovered that women who developed prediabetes after pregnancy had aberrations already in their early pregnancy blood serum metabolomic profile. More specifically, they had higher concentrations of small HDL particles in early pregnancy.
Finland-Mexico Innovation Camp Challenged Students to Develop Solutions for Combating Obesity
The first Finland-Mexico Innovation Camp (FINMEXINNO) has just wrapped up. Over an intensive two weeks in February and March 2023, students from the Global Innovation Management Program (GIM) and students from EGADE Business School at Tec de Monterrey, Mexico, worked together to develop innovative solutions to address the global issue of the rise in overweight and obesity.
Food Supplement Use During Pregnancy Differs from Recommendations
Although a majority of pregnant women believed that they were aware of the recommendations on food supplement use, the recommendations were not always adhered to in practice, shows a study conducted at the University of Turku, Finland. The comparison of four countries shows that the use of food supplements was most common in Finland and least common in Italy.

In the research groups of our center and together with our partner institutes, it is possible to pursue postgraduate studies or basic level studies and to do internships. Students from different fields of study can participate, for example, in on-going nutrition and food research projects.
Food Research Strategy for Finland to Promote Health and Sustainability
The time is now ripe for changes in the Finnish food system. VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, the universities of Helsinki, Turku and Eastern Finland, the Natural Resources Institute Finland, the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare, and the Finnish Food Safety Authority set the direction for food research, which aims is to make Finland a key player in the transition to a healthy and sustainable global food system. At the same time, new opportunities for economic growth are being created in Finland.
Global Consortium of Scientists Investigates Connection between Loss of Smell and Taste and COVID-19 with a Survey
Scientists from the Universities of Helsinki and Turku, Finland are part of the global consortium investigating the connection between the chemical senses and COVID-19. People with respiratory illnesses (including COVID-19) are urged to participate in survey on smell loss.
