Former Rector and Chancellor of the University of Turku Keijo Paunio has passed away at the age of 87. Paunio had an impressive career as Professor of Periodontology as well as in the University management and more extensively in science and university policy.

DDS, PhD, MBA, docent Leila Perea-Lowery was nominated in her home country Colombia for a prestigious distinction because of her academic achievements. This distinction is granted to Afro-Colombians who have made outstanding contributions for the betterment of Colombia.
The International Association for Dental Research (IADR) has granted the prestigious Distinguished Scientist Award in Oral Medicine & Pathology Research to Kristiina Heikinheimo, DDS, MS (Oral Pathology), PhD from the University of Turku, Finland in recognition of her ground-breaking work in the field of molecular medicine and genetics in the mouth and jaws.
The University of Eastern Finland will hold a doctoral conferment ceremony at the Kuopio Campus on 4-6 June 2020. In addition to conferring doctorates upon its graduates, the university will also confer 13 honorary doctorates. An honorary doctorate is the highest distinction the university may confer upon a person.
The 10th FINDOS Symposium, organised by the Finnish Doctoral Programme in Oral Sciences (FINDOS-Turku), was held at the Institute of Dentistry at the University of Turku on 9.–10.5.2019. Talks were given on craniofacial reparative surgery, and on how new biomaterials, use of 3D modelling techniques, and advancements in stem cell research enable increasingly better patient outcomes.
