Finnish Doctoral Programme in Oral Sciences (FINDOS Turku) awarded two winners of the FINDOS Journal Article Prize 2024.
The article prize was shared by Sanna Syrjäläinen for their article "Dietary inflammatory index in relation to salivary cytokine concentrations and periodontitis: A cross-sectional analysis" and Omar Ismail for their article "Concentration effect of DMSO-dry bonding on the stability of etch-and-rinse bonds". This new prize recognizes outstanding research contributions in the field of Oral Sciences by doctoral researchers.
The competition was open to all doctoral researchers enrolled in the FINDOS-Turku Doctoral Programme at the University of Turku. Participants were invited to submit their published journal articles for consideration.
“Overall, the quality of the articles was excellent, reflecting the high standard of research conducted within the FINDOS Doctoral Programme. The articles consistently demonstrated high research quality, innovation and execution, and clarity and style. The methods were well described, and the figures and tables were clearly presented,” tell the review committee.
The review committee decided to split the prize of €1000 between two winners, emphasizing broad appeal in their selection, meaning the topics were accessible and engaging to a wide audience.
The winners were announced on 11 December 2024 during the FINDOS Seminar. The Director of the Doctoral Programme, Ulvi Gürsoy, presented the award to the winners.
