New project accelerates digital transformation in the pharmaceutical and life science industry in Finland

The pharmaceutical industry is a significant employer in Finland and a source of economic growth and income, especially in Southwest Finland. The University of Turku’s strategic partner Bayer Oy is already committed to the project.

Faculty of Medicine at the University of Turku Confers Five Honorary Doctors in Its Ceremonial Conferment in the Spring

The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Turku organises a ceremonial conferment of doctoral degrees on 25–27 May 2023. Five honorary doctors will be conferred in the ceremony. They will receive the title of honorary doctor for their scientific merits, collaboration with the Faculty, and their impact on society.

Astrophysicists discover a puzzlingly perfect spherical explosion in space

When neutron stars collide, they produce a violent explosion. Data from the only well observed collision show that the explosion was perfectly spherical, completely contrary to expectations. How this is possible remains a mystery, but the discovery may provide a new key to fundamental physics and to measuring the age of the Universe. The discovery was made by an international collaboration led by astrophysicists from the University of Copenhagen and including researchers from the University of Turku. The research has just been published in the journal Nature.

University Board of the University of Turku Decided on Savings and Acquisition of Additional Income

In its meeting on 14 February, the University Board of the University of Turku decided on the University’s savings targets and on acquiring at least 7 million in additional income by 2028.  The City of Rauma and the University of Turku are preparing a co-operation agreement regarding the Rauma campus. The Independent Unit Brahea Centre that produces development and educational services will be discontinued. Further assessments regarding the research station at Seili will continue.
