Shakespeare's Mind: Embodied and Extended 3.12.2013 klo 12-14 Tauno Nurmela -salissa

29.10.2013

Dr Miranda Anderson Edinburghin yliopistosta luennoi tiistaina 3. joulukuuta klo 12-14 Tauno Nurmela -salissa aiheesta "Shakespeare's mind: Embodied and Extended"

Luennon sisällöstä:

Recent research in cognitive science and philosophy claims that cognition does not all just take place in the head. Instead it is argued that cognition is spread across the brain, body and world: the extended mind hypotheses.

Beginning with an overview of research on the embodied and extended nature of the mind, this lecture will then go on to ask how such ideas relate to, or interrogate, various current forms of literary theory. Next we will consider in what ways these ideas hold parallels with Renaissance notions of the mind. Finally, we will examine how Renaissance ideas about embodiment and extendedness are revealed and exploited imaginatively in Shakespeare’s works.

Luento on ensimmäinen sarjassa "Reading, Mind and Body: A Lecture Series on Cognitive Approaches to Literature", jonka järjestää PhD Karin Kukkonen.
