Apuraha bioinformatiikan ja biolääketieteen alan väitöskirjan valmisteluun

Myönnämme apurahan bioinformatiikan ja biolääketieteen alan väitöskirjan valmisteluun / väitöskirjatyöskentelyn aloittamiseen. Apuraha on tarkoitettu bioinformatiikan tutkimusmenetelmien kehittämiseen ja soveltamiseen suoliston mikrobiomin, aineenvaihduntareittien ja ravinnon tutkimiseen kliinisissä tutkimusaineistoissa. Hanketta johtaa apulaisprofessori Kirsi Laitinen, Biolääketieteen laitos, yhteistyössä apulaisprofessori Leo Lahti, Tulevaisuuden teknologioiden laitos.

Apurahaa voivat hakea henkilöt joilla on soveltuva ylempi korkeakoulututkinto ja tieteenalan osaaminen - esim.  bioinformatiikka, mikrobiologia, biokemia, molekulaarinen biologia - sekä hyvä englannin kielen taito. Lisäksi edellytetään korkeakoulututkinnon suorittamisen yhteydessä tai muutoin osoitettua kykyä ja motivoitumista jatko-opintoihin ja tohtorin tutkinnon suorittamiseen tutkimussuunnitelman mukaisesti. Apurahatutkijakandidaatin edellytetään hakevan oikeutta jatko-opintoihin Turun yliopistossa kuuden (6) kuukauden sisällä työskentelyn aloittamisesta.

Apurahatutkijalle on 9 kk alkurahoitus. Apurahan määrä on 2000 €/ kk. Valittavalta edellytetään jatko-opintotutkimussuunnitelman laatimista sekä omaa aktiivisuutta apurahojen hakemiseksi väitöskirjaopintoihin. Hakijan on syytä perehtyä apurahansaajan lakisääteiseen eläke- ja työtapaturmavakuuttamiseen ja verotukseen, sillä nämä tekijät vaikuttavat apurahan nettomäärään.

Yliopisto tarjoaa valitulle apurahatutkijalle laitteet ja työtilan Biolääketieteen laitoksessa.

Grant for preparation of doctoral dissertation in bioinformatics and biomedicine

We are looking for a doctoral candidate to a fixed-term, grant-based position. The scientific fields are bioinformatics and biomedicine. The research involves developing and applying bioinformatics research methods to study gut microbiome, metabolism and diet within clinical trial context. The project is led by Associate Professor Kirsi Laitinen, Institute of Biomedicine, in collaboration with Associate Professor Leo Lahti, Department of Future Technologies, at the University of Turku, Turku, Finland.

The applicant should hold an MSc in an applicable field e.g., but not limited to, bioinformatics, microbiology, biochemistry and molecular biology. Excellent academic performance and knowledge of written and spoken English are required. Prior experience working within the field is desired. The applicant should demonstrate the needed skills and motivation for doctoral studies and for completion of the PhD degree.

A starting grant for 9 months will be awarded. The grant is 2000 € per month. The candidate is expected to formulate a study plan and to demonstrate activity in applying personal research grants for PhD studies. The applicant should familiarize with pension insurance and taxation regulations for recipients of scientific grants and scholarships. The doctoral candidate is expected to enroll in the PhD program at the University of Turku within 6 months of starting the position (https://www.utu.fi/en/research/utugs).

The University will offer to the researcher in the grant-based position the needed equipment and working space at the Institute of Biomedicine.
