BioCity Symposium Celebrates its 30th Anniversary in August 2021

The annual BioCity Symposium is in August 19th–20th with the title Cancer – Breaking Bad. This series of meetings organized since 1991 has become the most important annual get-together in the fields of biosciences and molecular medicine in Turku. The symposium gathers together hundreds of participants each year and offers talks from cutting-edge international researchers.

Adverse Cardiovascular Risk Factor Profile from Childhood to Midlife Associates with Poor Cognitive Performance

A Finnish study coordinated by the Research Centre of Applied and Preventive Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Turku shows that exposure to cardiovascular risk factors, such as high blood pressure, elevated serum cholesterol, and obesity, from childhood to midlife are associated with poor cognitive performance in midlife. Importantly, the worse the cardiovascular risk factor profile and the higher the number of the risk factors was, the poorer cognitive performance was observed.

InFLAMES Flagship Welcomes Four Visiting Professors

The joint InFLAMES Flagship of the University of Turku and Åbo Akademi University has invited four top-level visiting professors to strengthen the initiative. The position of visiting professor at the University of Turku has been granted for the period of 1 April 2021–31 December 2024 to Professors Mark Ansel, Janne Lehtiö and Lawrence Steinman as well as to Director Teng-Leong Chew.
