“La Electrificación en la Sociedad Entre Pares – Una Nueva Narrativa para Futuros Sostenibles” es un viaje en el tiempo hacia un futuro en el que la energía renovable, la electrificación y un ethos entre pares se encuentran entrelazados. El uso de recursos combustibles fósiles está acabándose.
Una visión libre de emisiones para el 2050 es ilustrada a través de cuatro escenarios transformacionales: Startup radicales, Tecnogigantes (techemoths) orientados al valor, Ingenieros verdes hazlo-tú-mismo y Nueva conciencia. Los escenarios sirven como bancos de pruebas para el tipo de futuros en los que deseamos vivir. Los futuros tienen que ser explorados con una perspectiva de largo plazo, pero las decisiones en cuanto a los futuros que preferimos deben ser tomadas hoy. Todos los principales sectores de la sociedad tienen que ser transformados para mantenernos dentro de los límites de los objetivos climáticos de París.
Este libro destaca los resultados del Proyecto Energía Neo-Carbono, y se dirige a todos los interesados en las visiones del futuro, cambios societales y avances tecnológicos. También puede ser usado como material de enseñanza, o como fuente de inspiración para tomar pasos concretos hacia la era pos-fósil y una economía circular neutra en carbono – para los gobiernos, empresas y ciudadanos.

The book ’Electrification in Peer-to-Peer Society – A New Narrative for Sustainable Futures’ is now updated and published in Spanish. It is a time travel journey to a future when renewable energy, electrification, and a peer-to-peer ethos are intertwined. The use of fossil fuel resources is ending and futures resilience is needed to survive crises such as the pandemic.
An emission-free vision for 2050 is illustrated through four transformational scenarios: Radical Startups, Value-Driven Techemoths, Green Do-It-Yourself Engineers, and New Consciousness. They serve as testbeds for what kind of futures we want to live in. Futures have to be explored with a long perspective, but the decisions for preferred futures have to be made today. All major sectors in society need transformation to stay within the limits of the Paris climate goals.
This book highlights results from the Neo-Carbon Energy project, addressing all those interested in future visions, societal changes and technological advances. It can also be used as teaching material, and as inspiration for concrete steps towards the post-fossil era and a carbon-neutral circular economy – for governments, companies, and citizens.

PECOLO, or Native crops for sustainable and innovative food futures in Peru and Colombia, was a collaborative project involving the University of Turku, Finland (UTU), Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina, Peru (UNALM) and Universidad el Bosque, Colombia (UEB). From UTU, Finland Futures Research Centre (FFRC) coordinated the project. In addition, the Functional Foods Forum and Department of Biochemistry of the University of Turku were also participating in the project.
One of the key focus areas of the PECOLO project was the development of innovation environments around native Andean crops. Futures research and foresight methodologies were used as novel tools for developing innovation environments in cooperation with academic, public and private sector organizations and NGOs.
This is the second of two publications concerning Peru that have been produced based on the results of the PECOLO project’s four-stage futures process. The first, A Scenario for the Desirable Future of the Peruvian Agri-Food Sector 2030, Focusing on Andean Native Crops: Results from the 1st and 2nd Futures Workshops of the PECOLO Project , describes the methods and results of the first two steps of the futures process. The outcome was a futures table describing a set of three alternative futures for the Peruvian agri-food sector that reconsider the potential of Andean crops, as well as a scenario narrative for the most desirable future.
This second publication covers the work that took place during the project’s third and fourth futures workshops. The third workshop established a vision for 2030 based on the desirable scenario of the second workshop, and a roadmap for the Peruvian agri-food sector with a special focus on Andean native crops. The fourth and final workshop elaborated concrete actions that can and should be taken by stakeholders in the first implementation period, from 2020–2022, in order to begin to move toward these common goals.
The PECOLO project was funded by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland between 2017–2019 under the HEI-ICI Programme (Higher Education Institutions – Institutional Capacity-building Instrument).

Tässä tutkimuksessa pureudutaan nuorten aikuisten yrittäjyyspolkuihin monesta eri näkökulmasta. Tutkimuksessa tarkastellaan yrittäjyyspolun alkua ja sillä etenemistä, yrittäjäaktiivisuuden tason ja kehityksen syitä ja edistämiskeinoja sekä alueiden välisiä eroja. Tutkimus perustuu useisiin eri aineistoihin: tilastoihin, kyselyihin, haastatteluihin ja työpajoihin. Aineistojen tulokset ovat saman-suuntaisia. Yrittäjyyden taustalla on toimintaympäristöstä kumpuavaa pakkoa ja mahdollisuuksien imua. Yrittäjyyspolulle lähtemisessä tärkeitä ovat mielikuvat, esimerkit, kannustava ilmapiiri ja osaaminen. Yrittäjyyskasvatus, tutustuminen ja kokeileminen sekä neuvonta ovat tärkeitä keinoja nuorten yrittäjäaktiivisuuden edistämisessä.
Tutkimus kertoo myös maailman muutoksesta. Perinteisiä yrittäjyyspolitiikan keinoja ovat olleet muun muassa toimitilojen tarjoaminen ja infrastruktuurin kehittäminen, tuen ja rahoituksen tarjoaminen, byrokratian ja verotuksen keventäminen ja sosiaaliturvan parantaminen. Tässä tutkimuksessa näiden keinojen vaikuttavuus nuorten yrittäjyyden edistämisessä näyttäytyy marginaalisena. Vaikuttavina keinoina pidetään muun muassa yrittäjyyskasvatusta, esimerkkejä ja malleja tarjoavaa positiivista viestintää, matalan kynnyksen henkilökohtaista neuvontaa ja mentorointia, kannustavaa ilmapiiriä sekä tutustumis- ja kokeilumahdollisuuksia. Voidaan sanoa, että tällaisen yrittäjyyspolitiikan keskiössä eivät ole puitteet vaan ihminen.
Syitä tämänkaltaisen maailmanmallin muutokseen on varmasti monia: puitetekijät ovat valtaosin kunnossa, yrittäjyyteen ei ole suoranaista toimeentulon vaatimaa pakkoa ja vaihtoehtoja on tarjolla, epävarmuus ja elämänhallinnan haasteet ovat lisääntyneet jne. Tällaisessa maailmassa yrittäjäpolulle päätymisessä ja sillä etenemisessä ihmisiin kiinnittyvät tekijät ovat tärkeämpiä kuin perinteiset puitetekijät. Lisäksi työelämään siirtymässä olevat nuoret aikuiset kaipaavat erilaisia tarttuma-pintoja kuin pitkään työelämässä olleet aikuiset. Tämän muutoksen soisi näkyvän myös yhteiskunnan ja yrittäjien ystävien toiminnassa.

This handbook introduces important criteria on co-responsibility standards in hospitality for a new ecological development, the Arctic Blue Resort Kontiolahti in North Karelia. The resort initiative stems from a rich Nordic tradition of honesty, respect and appreciation for nature. It builds on key assets characterizing the region, namely: access to high-quality of air, pure drinking water and pristine forest lands. The resort also rests on the hospitable and environmentally-conscious culture of Karelia and its friendly people considered one of the happiest in the world. The development is unique in that it combines the virtues and healing powers of nature, with efficiency and high standards for environmental hospitality development, products and services.
The sustainability guidelines introduced in this handbook draw from a literature review on the state of global tourism and from case studies of well-stablished advanced sustainability practices in hospitality and ecotourism outside of Finland. Taking the lessons from these examples, the new Arctic Blue Resort Kontiolahti aims at a new level of ecological and restorative tourism. The resort has unique capacities for providing visitors with a mix of extremely pure bounties of nature coupled with a nature-based design in all the new infrastructure planned for the area. Furthermore, by using a human and nature-centric design, the resort aims to make a positive and lasting impact on the state of nature areas as well as on the local and regional communities.
The Arctic Blue Resort Co-Responsibility Handbook has been prepared for the Kontiolahti Municipality in collaboration with the Finland Futures Research Centre, the Arctic Brands Group and Innvolve Oy in Helsinki. The information contained in this handbook is intended for the general public with the hope that this new development plants the seeds of a new culture of tourism and travel in North Karelia-Finland built on the highest ecological standards with collective responsibility and care for people and nature.

Tässä käsikirjassa kuvataan tärkeitä ekologisuuteen ja vastuullisuuteen kohdistuvia kriteerejä, jotka liittyvät kehitteillä olevaan Arctic Blue Resort Kontiolahteen. Aloite uudesta kestävän kehityksen matkailu- ja vapaa-ajankohteesta perustuu Pohjois-Karjalan luonnon arvostuksen pitkään perinteeseen. Sen perusta lepää Pohjois-Karjalan poikkeuksellisen puhtaassa ilmassa ja vedessä sekä sen huikean kauniissa metsäluonnossa. Uusi vapaa-ajankeskus ammentaa Pohjois-Karjalan ainutlaatuisesta vieraanvaraisuuden kulttuurista sekä sen väkevästä ja monipuolisesta luonnosta. Nämä tekijät rakentavat tukevan pohjan ekologisesti korkealaatuisille tuotteille ja palveluille.
Tämän käsikirjan suositukset pohjaavat analyysiin ekomatkailun kehityksestä eri puolilla maailmaa. Käsikirjassa esitellään muutama tapaustutkimus Costa Ricasta, jossa on pitkät perinteet ekoturismille. Tähän analyysiin pohjaten Arctic Blue Resort Kontiolahti haluaa
nostaa ekologisen virkistysmatkailun uudelle tasolle. Rakennettava vapaa-ajankeskus ympäristöineen tarjoaa ainutlaatuiset puitteet vierailijoille nauttia puhtaista luonnon antimista korkealaatuisessa rakennetussa ympäristössä, joka on suunniteltu alusta loppuun
luontoa kunnioittaen. Näin vapaa-ajankeskuksella tulee olemaan positiivinen vaikutus sekä seudun luontoalueiden tilaan sekä paikallisyhteisöön.
Arctic Blue Resort -vastuullisuuskäsikirja on tuotettu Kontiolahden kunnalle yhteistyössä Tulevaisuuden tutkimuskeskuksen, Arctic Brands Groupin ja Helsingissä toimivan Innvolve Oy:n kanssa. Tämä käsikirja on tarkoitettu suurelle yleisölle siinä toivossa, että ABR Kontiolahti kylväisi siemenen korkeatasoiselle kestävän kehityksen mukaisen turismin ja matkailun kulttuurille Pohjois-Karjalassa. Tavoitteena on noudattaa korkeimpia ekologisia standardeja ja kantaa vastuuta niin luonnosta kuin ihmisistä.

Welcome to explore the world of futures studies through the fresh new voices of students! This collection includes some of the most interesting student papers that have been submitted on futures studies courses offered by the University of Turku and Finland Futures Academy. What makes a student paper cool? Looking at the papers in this collection, we can see that they are certainly different from each other. Some are more scholarly and analytical, some are more reflective, some are individual works, while others are written by a team. Thus, there is no universal set of characteristics for a ‘cool student paper’. Nevertheless, each paper demonstrates some aspects that we as teachers like to see in student papers, whether it’s clarity of argumentation, ability to apply key concepts, an innovative choice of topic or something else.

The PECOLO project (Native Crops for Sustainable and Innovative Food Futures in Peru and Colombia) was developed as a collaboration between the University of Turku, Finland (UTU), the National Agrarian University La Molina, Peru (UNALM) and the University El Bosque, Colombia (UEB). The objective of the project is for higher education, research and innovation environments to support the establishment and maintenance of sustainable, innovative and profitable value chains for Andean native food plant crops.
As part of its strategy, the project focused on transferring tools and methods of future studies and foresight. A series of futures workshops were conducted during the project. With the help of these tools and methods, and through the participation of different interest groups, a set of alternative future states for the Colombian agri-food sector was developed and presented (publication one). Based on the desirable scenario presented in the first publication, a road map and action plan were then developed by the interest groups.
This publication presents the results of the first two workshops of the project. It presents the characteristics of the agricultural sector in Colombia and the national geographical framework, as well as the results of the latest agricultural census. It also highlights the main actors in the agri-food sector at the national level and presents the value chain structure and organization of the sector. The second chapter of the publication is the reference framework, where futures studies and foresight are taken as a theoretical foundation. It lays the groundwork of a theoretical and methodological approach before closing with an examination of the relationship between future studies and innovation environments. The third chapter describes the methods and tools of the futures process and explains in detail how the horizon scanning and scenario workshops were run. The fourth chapter presents the results of each workshop. Finally, the publication closes with a final chapter in which the results obtained up to that point in the first two workshops are discussed.
