The course focuses on the interconnection of international relations, policy and business. It provides different perspectives from the key economic regions on trade, trade policy and how these changes influence the international business environment. The course gives an introduction to the topic and examples of ongoing developments.
This is a self-study course - all the materials and tasks are already available on the course platform. The grading of the assignments and exams is fully automated. You complete the course independently, and in your own pace.
The course is open to all. Degree students of the University of Turku register through Peppi. For other students registration is done through the Open University of Turku. You can also complete the course without registration if you don't need the credits. To obtain the 2 ECTS the student must complete all assignments. You do not have to wait for the registration to be accepted in Peppi. After enrolling to the course, you can go ahead and start completing the course in the course platform. Study credits are transferred twice a year, in December and May.

The course content is divided to four blocks. Each block explores the topic through the perspective of different geographical locations. The blocks are: South Asia, East and Southeast Asia, North and South America and the European Union.
The materials include videos, podcasts and short texts. Each block has individual assignments. The assignments are multiple choice exams based on the course materials.
After completing the course, students:
- are familiar with geopolitical and geoeconomic changes in different geographical regions
- can identify the interconnections between these large-scale changes and the international business environment
- have better abilities to find and critically evaluate information
You can access the MOOC materials and complete the learning tasks at your own pace. Studies are completed independently within the DigiCampus learning environment. Please note that independently completed studies do not earn ECTS credits or a certificate.
It is possible to earn credits (2 ECTS) by registering as an Open University student. The course fee is €30. Registration is available through the Open University's enrolment service, and the fee is paid online at the time of registration.
The MOOC is free of charge for degree students at the University of Turku. Students register for the course via the Peppi student desktop. The study guide specifies the degree programmes that include the course in their curriculum.
