Docent Pekka Postila and Professor Olli Pentikäinen from the Institute of Biomedicine and InFLAMES Flagship have received 100,000 dollars in funding from the SynGAP Research Fund (SRF) for SynGAP syndrome research.
The funding supports cross-disciplinary research in the University’s three profiling areas that focus on immune mediated diseases, the evolution of human diversity, and the design of sustainable materials.
The European Research Council (ERC) has awarded a Synergy Grant, named “BlackHolistic”, of 14 million Euro to a team of Dutch, British, Finnish, and Namibian astronomers to make colour movies of black holes. Researchers from the University of Turku are involved in international collaboration.

Sigrid Jusélius Foundation has announced the outcome of the application of Senior Researcher grants in 2021. Dr. Jianwei Li, a group leader at the MediCity Research Laboratory, is one of the five awardees, and will receive 700 000 € to develop nanomaterials for cancer therapy from a systems chemistry perspective.
The Academy of Finland has selected a unit led by Johanna Ivaska as a new Centre of Excellence which studies cell mechanics in biological barriers. From the University of Turku, also Riikka Korja, Kaisa Matomäki and Teppo Hiltunen are members of the newly selected Centres of Excellence.
