Expo 2020 Dubai, once postponed due to the COVID-19, will take place from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022. Expo 2020 Dubai will be the first World Expo ever hosted in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia (MEASA) region. Expo 2020 is expected to attract 25 million visits, with 70 percent of visitors projected to come from outside the UAE – the largest proportion of international visitors in the 168-year history of World Expos. 

How does learning change? What is the role of learning in tomorrow’s world? What, where and when to learn? How do we develop our futures literacy? How could futures education become part of all learning?

The Pentti Malaska Futures Award is given to a research-based and groundbreaking visionary innovation that can help with building a more sustainable global future. The University of Turku has granted the €30,000 Pentti Malaska Futures Award to Finnish company Woodio Oy.

The Rural and Urban Futures conference will create a cross-disciplinary platform where the participants can virtually meet, discuss and share insights concerning place-based futures. The event is organised by Finland Futures Research Centre, University of Turku and the RURALIZATION project.

The University of Turku opens the call for applications to the Pentti Malaska Futures Award on the national Futures Day on 5 March 2021. We are looking for bold, research-based, visionary, and boundary-crossing solutions supporting the building of a more sustainable global future. 

Due to the current pandemic this 21st Futures Conference will be organised fully online as a virtual conference. 

Could we find new pathways for change, if we were able to see the world through many futures? Futures Researcher Nicolas Balcom Raleigh challenges people and organisations to contemplate their stance on the future as well as to expand their uses of the future.

At this Summit, UNESCO is expected to declare Futures Literacy to be an essential 21st Century skill. Like other literacies (e.g. science literacy, data literacy, media literacy) this skill is concerns the futures people, organizations and societies imagine. It is the capability to expand the variety of modes and reasons for imagining futures and identifying opportunities for action in the present.
