Our laboratory has a modern transmission electron microscope, an ultramicrotome capable of sectioning both plastic and cryo sections, and specimen preparation equipment for various situations.
Our laboratory has a modern transmission electron microscope, an ultramicrotome capable of sectioning both plastic and cryo sections, and specimen preparation equipment for various situations.
Our equipment and methods can be applied in various projects in medical and biological research as well as in materials sciences.
Laboratory of Electron Microscopy is a core facility of the Institute of Biomedicine. Our services are open for everyone who needs electron microscopy in their work.
The Bioanalytical Laboratory conducts quantitative analysis of preclinical and clinical pharmacokinetic and biomarker samples in a GLP-certified environment.
The Integrative physiology and pharmacology research unit covers widely the field of biomedicine. The research themes cover areas such as endocrinology, metabolism, bioimaging and diagnostics, drug development and medical treatment. The methodology used includes different in vitro cell culture models and translational animal models. The most advanced microscopy, x-ray and PET devices and methods are applied on the field of bioimaging.
Research at the Institute of Biomedicine is divided into three functional units: 1) Infection and Immunity, 2) Integrative Physiology and Pharmacology and 3) Cancer research. Research at our Institute includes both biomedical basic research and translational research, and the unit division expresses our research priorities.
The Institute of Biomedicine is in charge of the Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Biomedicine (in Finnish) and of two international Master’s Degree Programmes (Drug Discovery and Development, and Biomedical Imaging).
Period for applying for the right to study for doctoral degree in the Faculty of Medicine is April 25 – May 16, 2016. The right to study begins in the Spring term 2016.
