  • tissue pieces
  • cells
  • bacteria
  • viruses
  • macromolecules
  • polymers
  • nanoparticles
Available techniques
  • Plastic embedding and ultrathin sectioning for conventional TEM
  • Correlative light and electron microscopy (CLEM)
  • Immuno electron microscopy
  • Electron tomography
  • Negative staining
Specimen preparation service

Our laboratory technicians prepare samples for imaging with different EM-techniques. The researcher collects and fixes the samples and brings them to our specimen preparation laboratory for further processing. We can prepare specimens for both transmission (TEM) and scanning (SEM) electron microscopies.

EM imaging

We train every user individually to TEM operation and provide technical support during imaging. SEM imaging is arranged in cooperation with other local units.

Consultation

We help researchers in all questions related to electron microscopy. We give help in all steps of an EM project from experiment planning to result interpretation.

User information

New users willing to use EM are asked to contact laboratory engineer Markus Peurla.

Opening a project

Send MIC electron microscopy project request form in OpenIRIS to open a project to the EM laboratory.

Collection of samples for EM

Download instructions for sample collection.

Fixative stock solutions are available in the specimen preparation laboratory.

Sample form must be returned together with the samples.

Fees

User fees.

TEM bookings

You can book the transmission electron microscope (TEM) in OpenIRIS. It is found under the Medisiina Imaging Center.
