Advancing Sustainability and Responsibility
Sustainability and responsibility are promoted under the leadership of the Steering Group for Sustainable Development and through the working groups it has set up. The main frameworks for this work are the UNIFI Sustainability and Responsibility Theses, the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the four dimensions of sustainability: ecological, economic, cultural and social sustainability.

Environmental Footprint of the University of Turku
The University of Turku has been calculating its carbon footprint since 2019 and has taken steps to reduce the emissions from its activities. The University of Turku is also a founding member of the international network of Nature Positive Universities and has recently calculated also the biodiversity footprint of its activities.

Enhancing biodiversity through the Nature2100 fund
In 2021, the University of Turku established the Nature2100 Fund, which aims to use donations to acquire young forests in particular to support the development of biodiversity and improve recreational opportunities. Acquisitions will be targeted primarily at the edges of and between existing protected areas, such as national parks, thus increasing their area, connectivity, conservation and recreational values.
