Presentations
Devices around us, both industrial machines and consumer products, are getting smarter. They make intelligent decisions based on sensory data gathered in an environment of uncertainty and imperfect information. These devices must have control schemes that learn, adapt and improve. Prof. Moreira Bessa’s research group studies intelligent controllers that can operate devices safely and efficiently.
Oats have tremendous potential as a high value export product for Finland. We are one of the biggest oat producers and exporters worldwide but the majority of the harvest is still used as fodder. Prof. Kaisa Linderborg’s group investigates the health effects and sensory properties of oats and collaborates with the food industry. The goal is to bring sustainable and nutritious Finnish oat-products to the global market.
Sustainability in shipbuilding involves ships’ sustainable operation and their whole lifecycle. The Finnish shipbuilding industry aims for a leading role in sustainable shipbuilding. Sustainable Shipbuilding Concepts (SusCon) project, joint between four research units and eight industry partners, seeks sustainability benefits and innovations. In this project, Dr. Teijo Lehtonen’s group specializes in VR solutions for shipbuilding. Meyer Turku Ltd., with Dr. Jatta Marjakangas as the principal investigator, concentrates on ways to improve communication of sustainability based facts.
Master’s thesis / diploma work on industrial topic is a great way to connect with future engineers and with the UTU Tech’s research environment to explore new ideas. Head of Corporate Collaboration Timo Vasankari tells how this works in practice.
