Department of Estonian Language and Culture
Estonian language and culture is a suitable minor subject for students from the Department of Finnish Language and Finno-Ugric Languages, or for the students of foreign languages, history, arts and cultural history. Estonian studies may also be useful for students from the faculties of mathematics and natural sciences, law, and social sciences who specialise in the Baltic Sea region in their Master’s-level studies.
All incoming exchange students to the Department of Finnish and Finno-Ugric Languages are welcome to participate in the lectures arranged by the Estonian Language and Culture Unit. All courses are taught in Finnish.
The goal of the studies provided by the Estonian Language and Culture Unit is to improve the student’s skills in the Estonian language. The basic studies we provide focus on the theoretical study of the Estonian grammar and lexicon, as well as practical conversational and writing skills. Our basic studies also include courses on Estonian literature and history. The goal of the intermediate studies that we provide is to deepen our students’ knowledge of the Estonian language and Estonian culture, from the past to the present.
The Estonian Language and Culture Unit operates under the Department of Finnish Language and Finno-Ugric Languages, and the subject may only be studied as a minor subject.
