The Academy of Finland has granted a continued funding of over 9 million euros to the Inequalities, Interventions and New Welfare State Flagship INVEST. The funding period extends until 2026. The international review panel which completed a mid-term review of the Flagship found its activities excellent and very successful while also considering its plans for the future promising.
The University of Turku has significantly improved its position in Psychology in the THE World University Rankings by Subject 2022. Psychology is now ranked 151–175th, last year 201–250th.
In a new study, researchers from the University of Turku showcased that the way our brain processes information is fundamentally altered during hypnosis. The research helps to understand how hypnosis produces changes in a hypnotised person’s behaviour and subjective experiences.
Vaccine hesitancy was recognised as a serious threat by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2019. Now, international experts are joining forces to combat vaccine hesitancy by tackling its root cause – misinformation. With EU funding, the project will harness the potential of health care professionals to challenge misconceptions about vaccination, reinforce confidence in vaccines, and encourage uptake of the COVID-19 vaccine, including being immunised themselves.
In collaboration with researchers from 14 countries around the world, Dr. Claire Garandeau and Dr. Jessica Trach from the INVEST Flagship at the University of Turku are recruiting young adults in Finland to take part in a one-time online survey in Finnish.
At the beginning of May, a group of INVEST psychology researchers will conduct a survey amongst students in comprehensive school level about their experiences during the corona epidemic. The researchers will survey the experiences of children and young people in terms of studying and learning, social relations and mental well-being.
Special arrangements during the spring may put students’ ability to cope to the test. The Opintokamu (in English “Studypal”) programme offers educational institutions tools for improving student’s well-being. Students of universities of applied sciences in Finland can now access the free online course.

A joint project of the University of Turku's FinnBrain study and the University of California-Irvine (US) investigated the impact of the predictability of parent interaction on a child's development. The study was published in EBioMedicine journal.
Researchers have identified a pattern of brain activity that reflects anger experienced during dreaming according to a new study carried out on healthy adults and published in The Journal of Neuroscience. The study helps to clarify the neural basis of dream emotions.
