University of Turku Organised Grant Writing Training for Nigerian Researchers

Altogether 143 researchers from Nigeria took part and completed a grant writing training organised and coordinated by the University of Turku’s Global Education Services in May and June 2022. The training sessions focused on the Horizon Europe research and innovation funding programme and were led by research funding specialists from the University’s Research Funding Unit.

Land Use Planning Prevents Misuse of Natural Resources – Researchers Developed Improved Method in Tanzania

Together with local experts, researchers of the University of Turku, Finland, developed a geospatial mapping method for local level land use planning in Tanzania, based on high-resolution satellite images. Involving the local communities and including their needs in the planning process creates sustainable and transparent practice of spatial planning in Tanzania.

Vice President of Namibia Visits University of Turku

Together with Turku Science Park, the University of Turku organised a networking event at the Visitor and Innovation Centre Joki. The Vice President of Namibia participated in the event that showcased the activities of the higher education institutions, businesses and organisations in Turku. The participants also discussed future collaboration between Finland and Namibia.

In spring 2019, the University of Turku and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding for advancing the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 9 on creating a sustainable industry, innovations, and infrastructures. The collaboration was launched with a two-day seminar on Monday, 26 August.

The University of Turku and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa aim to promote the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 9 on creating a sustainable industry, innovations, and infrastructures. Rector of the University of Turku Jukka Kola, Minister for Education Li Andersson, and Mayor of Turku Minna Arve will participate in the opening seminar for the Finland-Africa Platform for Sustainable Development Goal 9 which will be held at the University of Turku on 26–27 August 2019.
