Nobel Laureate Stefan Hell is celebrated in September - anniversary is celebrated with a bioimaging-themed art and science event

Physicist Stefan Hell, who started his research at the University of Turku in the 1990s, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in autumn 2014. The 10th anniversary of the prize will be celebrated on 4 September with a portrait unveiling at 12-14 in Alhopuro lecture hall and a science and art event open to the public at 14-20 at Visitor Centre Joki.

First Turku Imaging Day brings together Turku's imaging community

The first Turku Imaging Day will take place in Turku on October 3rd. The day will bring together the imaging community of Turku's universities, which may be unexpectedly large. "Almost 100% of researchers in life sciences use imaging in their work," says Research Manager Pasi Kankaanpää of the Turku Faculty of Medicine.

The European Commission has officially established Euro-BioImaging – which provides life scientists with open access to a broad range of technologies and resources in biological and biomedical imaging – as a European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC). Imaging technologies have a central role in driving fundamental research and applied innovations in both biological and biomedical research.
