Risky Alcohol Consumption Can Increase at Time of Retirement

Every tenth employee increases their alcohol consumption to risky levels at the time of retirement from full-time employment. However, the increase seems to be temporary as risky drinking often decreases during the retirement. For most pensioners, alcohol consumption remains below the risk levels before and after retirement. The results of the new Finnish study were published in the esteemed Addiction journal.

KiVa Antibullying Program is used in the international schools of Spain in English and in the Ikastola Network in Basque. Now, the KiVa Antibullying Program will also spread to Spanish speaking schools.

Macmillan Education Managing Director of Spain Marta Martínez and Finland University Executive Vice President Pasi Kaskinen signed the agreement in Madrid on 21 March 2017.

ERC Advanced Grants to Olli Raitakari and Craig Primmer

Professor Olli Raitakari and Academy Professor Craig Primmer have received research grants from the European Research Council ERC. The ERC Advanced Grant is the largest personal research grant available in Europe.

​Professor Olli Raitakari from the Research Centre of Applied and Preventive Cardiovascular Medicine of the University of Turku will use the grant to carry out an extensive population study that examines epigenetics.

Finland University Made an Agreement on Continuing Education of Saudi Teachers

Finland University and Saudi Arabian Ministry of Education have made an agreement on continuing education for Saudi teachers. The agreement was signed in Berlin on 15 March 2017 and the six-month education will begin in May-June.

​Finland University CEO Pekka T. Saavalainen and Cultural Attaché Dr Abdulaziz M. Al-Saleh from Saudi Arabia signed the agreement in Berlin on Wednesday, 15 March 2017.
