Meet Aisvarya Adeseye, a current doctoral student at the University of Turku and an UTUambassador 2024–2025!
"Hi! I am Aisvarya Adeseye from Sri Lanka. I am an entrepreneur interested in software development, data analysis, cyber security and risk management. My bachelor’s degree was in Computer Applications from Bangalore University in India. I also earned a master’s degree in software engineering from the University of Southampton, UK.
I have been increasingly interested in cybersecurity in the last few years. With an estimated 30,000 websites hacked daily and a shortage of cybersecurity professionals worldwide, cybersecurity skills are more valuable today than ever. Hence, I moved to Finland for my second master’s degree after gaining a scholarship to study cybersecurity and entrepreneurship, with a full scholarship from the European Institute of Technology master’s degree program. I was supposed to spend one year in Finland and another year in another European country, but I ended up giving up the scholarship to continue my studies here; why? That’s a story for another day. But I love it here, and that’s why I have continued my study here as a doctoral student in cybersecurity.
The University of Turku provides excellent cyber security courses, equipping you with the theoretical and practical skills to help you understand cyber threats and find solutions to mitigate them. I also love the flexibility of face-to-face and onsite lectures offered in most courses. After my studies, I plan to establish a business in this beautiful city.
In my spare time, I love cooking and walking around the city. The city is filled with rich historical sites and is usually a delight. My favourite places are the Turku Castle and Turku Cathedral. Turku Cathedral is always a delight to visit, especially during Christmas. Join me in this peaceful and historic city; I am sure you will enjoy it, too."
