Alumni Speakers:
Milla Kalliokoski, marketing and communications specialist
I have studied Domestic Literature and Literary Studies at the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Turku, with minors in Gender Studies and Responsible Business (TSE). I am currently working as a marketing and communications specialist for a domestic importer. I believe that my background as a rambling humanist in the arts as well as a generalist will appeal to many students in the same situation. I have also made good use of the University of Turkus Rekry coaching, which I can warmly recommend. I would be happy to tell you about my career path, and how you dont have to go into working life prepared - your own interests can only emerge later. At the same time, I hope to instil a belief, at least in humanists, that you can apply your own educational background in unusual ways.
Julia Toivonen, HR Business Partner Ekahau
I graduated from the Department of Sociology at the University of Turku in 2014. As an enthusiastic student, I chose a lot of minor subjects and courses, which made my degree very broad. I didnt participate much in student activities, but I built my network in working life.?I encourage everyone to do exactly what feels most natural to them. I currently work in HR and on the strategic side of HR for the Finnish organisation.?You can ask me anything about HR and working in an international company. I am also happy to open up about my career path and tips on work life skills. I also like to reflect on current working life and its phenomena.
Jaakko Huhta, Class teacher
I studied at the University of Turku from 2011 to 2018. I graduated as a classroom teacher from Turku OKL and studied mathematics as a minor subject. Currently, I teach mathematics in a secondary school in Turku. I have been in my current position for five years. Class teacher students usually have a very straightforward course of study, but during my university years I struggled with anxiety, among other things, to the extent that my studies dragged on and my performance was sometimes very patchy. However, teaching always seemed to me to be the most appropriate profession, so the motivation to study was always there, even though I was often low on energy. The world of work took me by surprise right from the start, when I found myself in secondary school instead of primary school. When it comes to career choices, I encourage everyone to listen to their heart, to be honest with themselves, but also to be open-minded and take on new challenges.
