Read and see what students have to say about studying and living in Turku!
During the Christmas holiday we talked to the other students of our course, who went abroad for an exchange, and they can't say that everything went as planned. They faced lots of problems with the university and the housing situation and other obstacles along the way, that made Vica, Mike and me realize that we made the right decision when applying for Novia as our exchange year.
Karin, Double Degree student from Hochschule Landshut, Germany
I have been really impressed with my Master’s programme at UTU so far. I can take a wide range of courses as part of my degree, and the regular seminars mean that I have plenty of time to discuss the topics with my tutors and classmates. Student life in Finland is similar to the UK - just a bit colder! It’s still all about making friends, exploring new ideas and getting involved in the campus community.
Jonathon, MA student from the United Kingdom
I chose to come study in Finland, and particularly UniTurku, because of my interest in learning about my Finnish heritage as well as the fact that UniTurku provides highly specialized programs that teach many differing aspects of subjects, and that, unlike many other Asian Studies programs in Europe, the one at UniTurku is a social sciences program and not the traditional classical literature, providing a more multidisciplinary perspective and increased hire-ability after graduation! Though the majority of the year is spent studying rigorously, at UniTurku my peers and I have found comforts in outdoorsy activities, like hiking in Ruissalo and sledding at Impivaaranpuisto, and indoors playing board games while drinking Finnish coffee and the occasional hot chocolate with pastries!
Milla, MSSc student from the United States
I am currently a first-year student of the International Master's Degree Programme (MDP) in Finnish and Other Finno-Ugric Languages at University of Turku (UTU) in Finland. Since this is the only international MPD provided by UTU where the main language of instruction is Finnish, it is challenging to maintain the status of an international student. However, studying at UTU serves as a unique opportunity to improve my language skills, establish international contacts and expand my knowledge in different fields in a way that I just cannot do in my home country. Moreover, I have the privilege to represent UTU as a Student Ambassador and I am also actively involved in the activities carried out by the international student organization ESN Uni Turku. From my experience, UTU warmly welcomes all the international students by having friendly student tutors, experienced study advisors, helpful international coordinators and a professional teaching staff. Even student organizations are always there to help students settle in Turku and have a successful start of their studies!
Kristaps, MA student from Latvia
As Innovation is increasingly recognized as a vitally important social and economic phenomenon worthy of serious research study, University of Turku is one of the pioneers teaching and training students in Global Innovation Management. The program engages me in theoretical and practical insights of management, entrepreneurship and innovation fields globally, which is significantly important to my career path. It’s my pleasant experience to study at University of Turku.
