The title of Docent at the Faculty of Technology
The university may award the title of docent (dosentti) to a person who has 1) comprehensive knowledge of their field, 2) capability for independent research demonstrated through publications or other means, and 3) good teaching skills.
In the evaluation of the scientific qualification, the applicant must demonstrate scientific publications at least to the extent of two dissertations that meet the scientific requirements of the faculty in fields related to the department's or faculty's activities and profile.
In order to ascertain the applicant’s scientific competence, the faculty requests, based on the department's proposal, a statement from two professor-level experts outside the university. In addition, in order to evaluate teaching skills, the applicant is invited to give a teaching demonstration.
Applying the title of in the Faculty of Technology
Please, start the process by discussing with the Head of Department or with the professor(s) of your discipline or field in the faculty.
The department evaluates the necessity of the docentship and how the docentship would practically connect to the department's activities. In these discussions, the field of the docentship should be determined in both Finnish and English.
Free-form, written application is addressed to the Rector of the University of Turku.
The application should include
- the applicant’s address and email address,
- the field of the docentship both in Finnish and English,
- with whom the matter has been discussed in the department and
- a short report about the merits and co-operation
- The applicant is asked to shortly report the merits on the grounds of which they are applying for the title and their co-operation with the department/ discipline/ field in the past and in the future.

- Publications to be evaluated (max. 10) and a separate list of these publications
- A applicant selects the publications (max. 10) which the applicant wishes to use to demonstrate their scinetific qualification fot the title.
- The list should indicate the applicant's contribution to each publication. - Academic portfolio (needed only, if the CV doesn´t contain corresponding information, especially the details needed for the assessment of teaching skills).
Applicants may prepare their CV according to the guidelines of the Finnish National Board on Reseach Integrity and the publication list according to the guidelines of Research Council fo Finland. In addition, there are University's guidelines for an academic portfolio.
