Biomaterials Science
Biomaterials are synthetic or natural origin materials that are used in repairs, regeneration and replacement of tissues. Department of Biomaterials Science is giving education of biomaterials in dental and medical curriculums, and in the curriculum of biomedicine at the University of Turku. Department takes part the dental technician education of the Turku University of Applied Sciences.

Research at the Department of Biomaterials Science is widely networked world-wide and it is part of the profiling research programmes of the BioCity Turku and Faculty of Medicine.
Focus of the research is in non-metallic biomaterials and bioactivity of materials which are used as dental and medical indications. Research is made at the Turku Clinical Biomaterials Centre – TCBC in collaboration with other departments of the Faculty of Medicine, Åbo Akademi University, City of Turku and Turku University Hospital.
