Studying at the Department of Russian Studies
The Department of Russian Studies aims to provide its students with the skills necessary for operating in situations that require an excellent knowledge of the Russian language and Russian culture.
In addition, the Department provides its students with a knowledge of the rules and developments of the language, as well as of Russian literature, history and modern life. Slava, the student organisation of the Department’s students, arranges various activities for students of Russian studies.
Prospective students must possess a basic understanding of the Russian language. New minor students are admitted to the Department annually through an entrance examination or on the basis of their previous studies. Teaching at the Department is conducted primarily in Russian and Finnish. However, exchange students may take certain courses as independent studies in English as well. Contact the teachers responsible for the courses you are interested in before you start planning your independent studies.
