Studying European and World History
Education in European and World History produces experts in international history. The studies provide skills for fields that require knowledge of different societies and cultures. Here you will find information about the degree studies and exchange studies available at our Department. Also check the links at the bottom of this page.
BA and MA level studies
The Department of European and World History offers Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Master of Arts (MA) degrees in Finnish. Students enrolled in BA and MA courses gain a broad perspective on issues relating to world history. Students can specialise in a specific field of history, whether it be a geographical area or period, or approach issues from particular perspectives. European and World History incorporates viewpoints ranging from the society and economy to politics, culture, arts, and the environment. We emphasise the importance of independent work and personal choice, thereby giving students the opportunity to pursue their own interests in their studies.
Exchange students
The standard language of tuition at the Department of European and World History is Finnish, but occasionally there are separate courses and seminars in English that exchange students can attend. Information about the courses available in English is sent through the mailing list of exchange students. Exchange students can also consult us in advance on the possibility of taking self-study courses, and they can write essays on topics that have been previously agreed upon.
A student applying for exchange student status at the University of Turku must follow the general application protocol. This can be found on the website of the University's International Office.
