Janne Rauhala, entrepreneur, real estate designer and business management consultant, from RMB Rock My Business Oy acted as a mentor in the 2023 mentoring program for a Master's student at the University of Turku.
You have to know how to listen to the mentee
- I felt it was important to support a graduating student. At some point in time, my thoughts were not structured and in retrospect I would have then needed a conversation partner and guidance. Mentoring is mutual broadening of views and learning new things. The program has also given me a lot.
Janne himself has served as a mentor several times in the Suomen Yrittäjät mentoring program. Now, however, he participated for the first time in the university's mentoring programme for masters degree students.
- As far as possible, I try to mentor constantly - one person at a time. Discussion and learning new things are important for all people. Through mentoring, it is possible to influence people's current state and future. The role of a mentor has always seemed meaningful to me.
Openness and honesty go a long way
- The mentoring relationship must be honest and open. The mentee must be able to listen and find things in the content that clarify the mentee's thoughts and guide his actions in the right direction.

- Feel free to take the first step and sign up as a mentor. It is also worth talking to more experienced mentors about their experiences.
