Professor Martin Thrupp spoke at the Department of Education about a New Zealand primary school assessment policy called National Standards which was first announced in 2007 and was expected to improve the achievement of children. According to Thrupp, the policy has been a failure in many ways.

The Ministry of Education of the Sultanate of Oman has approved the Finland University tender on developing the evaluation of the effectiveness of the teachers’ continuing education and initiating research. The project is carried out by the University of Turku. According to Finland University CEO Pasi Kaskinen the 18-month contract is considered a significant opportunity.

The University of Turku was successful in applying for funds from the Future Learning funding programme of the Academy of Finland. Over 1.9 million euro was divided between three projects, which are led by professors Marja Vauras, Erno Lehtinen and Risto Rinne.
