The Faculty of Technology has received the EUR-ACE accreditation for the Finnish Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes (Tech) in Information and Communications Technology. The accreditation is at first conditional for one year, until 8.9.2023.
The industrial engineering programme is built in the interface of the Faculty of Technology and Turku School of Economics. DSc (Tech.) Saku Mäkinen has started as Professor of Industrial Engineering at the Faculty of Technology and DSc (Tech.) Jorma Turunen will be appointed as Professor of Practice in spring 2022.
The Ministry of Education and Culture has granted the University of Turku educational responsibility in electrical and automation engineering. The extension will mitigate the regional shortage of experts and further increase the impact of the University and its Faculty of Technology.

University’s new Associate Professor of Battery Technology Pekka Peljo has received the European Research Council’s ERC Starting Grant. The five-year grant will enable top-level research in materials engineering.
The new Associate Professor of Materials Engineering Pekka Peljo focuses in his research and teaching on battery technology, including the study of cost-effective and environmentally friendly materials that can be utilised in energy storage.
The Board decided in its meeting on 20 March 2020 that a faculty of engineering is established to the University of Turku on 1 January 2021.
