Certain High Blood Pressure Drugs Block Cancer Invasion

Researchers at the University of Turku have identified a new way of blocking the spread of cancer. Calcium channel blockers, which are used to lower blood pressure, block breast and pancreatic cancer invasion by inhibiting cellular structures.

The crown jewel of the centre is a brand new super-resolution STED microscope which is the only one in Finland. University of Turku and Boehringer Ingelheim to Collaborate on Lung Cancer Research

The University of Turku and the pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim have made an agreement on research collaboration that utilises the new screening method for genetic mutation of cancer, developed at the University of Turku, and the targeted cancer therapy for lung cancer, developed by the pharmaceutical company. The collaboration is expected to improve the patient selection for pharmacotherapy.

2016 Academy of Finland Award Granted to Kaisa Matomäki
