The new multidisciplinary research project of the University of Turku, which focuses on the utilisation of big data in territorial policy development, is part of the ESPON research programme. The project is coordinated by the Centre for Collaborative Research of the School of Economics.

Finland Futures Research Centre (FFRC) is one of the few university departments devoted to futures research in the world. Jointly founded by three universities in Turku in 1992, the FFRC is a department within the Turku School of Economics at the University of Turku, Finland. Professors Petri Tapio and Sirkka Heinonen have written a thorough review of futures research in Finland, focusing especially on FFRC. Pentti Malaska played a key pioneering role in developing and establishing the academic discipline of futures studies not only in Finland, but also internationally.

The course has been created as part of the operations of the UNESCO Chair in Learning Society and Futures of Education.

The University of Turku has long traditions in multidisciplinary sea and maritime research. At the moment, the University is recruiting two assistant or associate professors (tenure track) and a research director.

PhD Tadhg O'Mahony has worked as a Marie Sklodowska Curie postdoctoral fellow at the FFRC during 2015-2017. His forthcoming book, co-written with Professor Peadar Kirby, will be published by Palgrave Macmillan on 11 January 2018.
