The University of Turku has been granted a professorship by UNESCO with the aim of making use of tools of futures research to eradicate poverty and increase well-being in the developing countries. Professor of Futures Studies Markku Wilenius has been appointed to the position.
The Entrepreneurial Act of the Year for the academic year 2015‒2016 at the University of Turku is the Startup! course. The award is €30,000, and the main partner in awarding the act for the academic year 2015‒2016 is TOP Foundation.

A multidisciplinary team of researchers from the University of Turku is part of the Advanced Autonomous Waterborne Applications (AAWA) project studying and developing solutions for autonomous shipping.
