Meet Giridhar Chellappa Chandrakumar, a current master's student at the University of Turku and an UTUambassador 2024-2025!
Hello! I’m Giridhar Chellappa Chandrakumar, originally from India, Tamil Nadu, and I’m currently pursuing my Master's in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Turku. My specialisation track is Digital Design, and I am particularly passionate about exploring cutting-edge technologies like 3D printing and their impact on modern product design.
Before enrolling at UTU, I gained valuable experience as a Design Engineer in Marine outfitting and Interior Outfitting design for Cruise Vessels, which guided my decision to pursue further studies. The Finnish proverb, "Työ tekijäänsä neuvoo", meaning "The work teaches the worker," resonates with me deeply, as I've found that hands-on learning is key to mastering new skills. This, along with Finland's commitment to sustainability and innovation, drew me to UTU. The programme’s flexibility allows me to tailor my courses and explore diverse interests, enriching my overall learning experience.
Another Finnish saying, "Ei kysyvä tieltä eksy", meaning "Those who ask for the way never get lost," captures the supportive and open environment I’ve found at UTU. The faculty and resources are always available, guiding students towards their goals. Beyond academics, I enjoy reading, solo traveling, and hiking. Turku’s libraries and nature walks and Aura riverbanks are among my favourite places to unwind and reflect after a day of studies.
In the future, I aim to combine my passion for design and sustainability in projects that focus on eco-friendly solutions. When I’m not studying, you’ll likely find me exploring new hiking trails or immersed in a good book, or just spending time in the city library. These are activities that help me maintain balance in both my academic and personal life.
