Student organisations for international students of the University of Turku

Students of the University of Turku have a strong student organisation movement. Student organisations have various roles, from safeguarding students' interest at the University of Turku to organising activities for entertainment. On this page, you can discover different organisations and find the ones that would suit you.

The Student Union of the University of Turku (TYY) includes over a hundred different student organisations as its sub-organisations. These student organisations are often registered as legal entities (ry – registered association) and are available for every student who is a member of the Student Union. To become a member of a student organisation, a person should register, which usually includes filling up an electronic form and paying a membership fee, if the membership is paid. Organisation members can also become board members to influence the decision-making in the organisation.

To become a member of a student organisation, you usually need to fill in a registration form and pay a membership fee, if the membership is paid. To approach an organisation, you can contact you tutor or the organisation itself via contact information on their website. Most student organisations have mailing lists and profiles in social media, where they share their updates.

All student organisations of the Student Union can be divided into subject organisations that unite students pursuing a particular degree and interdisciplinary organisations that are usually related to specific activities.

Subject organisations and faculty organisations

Subject student organisation unite students of the same degree programme or similar areas. They serve as liaisons between students and units of the University by representing interests of the students in University boards and discussions. In addition, they organise cultural, educational, sports events, as well as parties and other leisure activities for their members.

Subject organisations are united into bigger faculty organisations. Their main purpose is to maintain cooperation between different student organisations, represent students' interests within the University of Turku, and streamline collaboration between the University staff and students.

More information about particular subject organisations is available on their web pages. Below you can find the list of subject organisations and faculty organisations corresponding to different degree programmes. Besides the organisations listed here, many more exist under each faculty. You can find the whole list of subject organisations on a TYY webpage.

However, it is sometimes also possible to participate in the activities without becoming a member. More information is available on web pages of particular organisations.
