Non-degree education
The University of Turku offers several non-degree programmes, specialisation studies and individual courses in English.
- If you have also a degree student's study right, you need to register with that according to degree student's registration instructions.
Study rights are given by faculties and entered into study register system Peppi in the Student Centre Disco. You will receive e-mail from Disco when your registration has been completed.

Flexible study right between the universities in the Turku area
Applications for JOO studies at other universities must be made in the manner required by the host university. The right to study is applied for by registering for a RIPA course from the student's own PSP or by applying using the online UTUForms application form, depending on the course being applied for.
- From spring 2024, the University of Turku (UTU) will gradually switch to the cross-study service (ristiinopiskelupalvelu, RIPA), where enrolment for studies at other universities will be done via the students PSP at UTU Peppi system.
- If there is available registration via cross-studies for the studies applied for, this should be used instead of the UTUForms form.
- NOTE The old procedure is no longer valid in the academic year 2024-2025. From August 1, 2024, the Cross-Learning service or the UTUForms form between Turku universities will be used.

- In some degree programmes operated together with Åbo Akademi University (ÅAU) and University of Turku (UTU) the study right for non-degree studies in UTU is given automatically.
- This study right is valid only for compulsory studies in the degree programme.
- If the study right has not been given automatically, please use the flexible study right service
- Your personal details have been transferred from directly from ÅAU.
- After registration you will receive an email from the Student Centre Disco.
Registration for current students
- Registration for current students is done automatically in Student Centre Disco during the whole period of the study right.
- Registration is entered annually in spring.
- Registration in UTU requires registering in ÅAU. The status of registration and study right will be checked from ÅAU annually.
- If the you haven't registered with ÅAU, your registration will be canceled in UTU.
- When you graduate in ÅAU, your stydy right is no longer valid in UTU.
- When study time is ending you'll receive e-mail from student centre Disco.
- You can inform the Student Centre Disco if you do not want to be registered as attending with the university. Please remember to tell you student number or Finnish ID code in your message to Disco. After that your registration will not be entered automatically, and you'll have to contact the Student Centre Disco for re-registration. However, there will be no re-registration fee.
Flexible study right between the universities in the Turku area
- If the studies you want to study at the Åbo Akademi University or at the Turku University of Applied Sciences are not obligatory studies in your degree here at UTU, you can apply for a flexible study right with the electronic UTUForms application form. Please note that if you are an exchange student, yuo can apply for a flexible JOO study right only between Uni. of Turku and Åbo Akademi.
- Please use your home university's user account (ABO or UTU) to log into the system.
- This electronic form is also available to exchange students and doctoral students in both universities (UTU and ABO).
- You will receive email notifications when your application is moving forward in the UTUForms system.
- The universities will decide to which studies they take flexible study right students.
- It is not possible to register for courses of Turku School of Economics
- For courses of the Language Centre you must apply for the right to participate by filling in the Application to study as a non-degree student.

New study right and registration as an attending student for the whole study time is done at the Student Centre Disco after the decision of the Faculty or the International Services.
- Your personal details have been transferred from the application system SoleMove.
Student Union membership
- Membership for the Student Union is voluntary for exchange students.
- Membership fee and the benefits depend on the level of your studies (Master/PhD).
- You will receive a bank transfer slip for the voluntary Student Union payment after arriving in Finland.
- As a member of Student Union you can order a student card.

Exchange students are not entitled to use the services of the Finnish Student Health Service
- Starting in January 2021 incoming exchange students are not entitled to use the services of the Finnish Student Health Service, and thus they do not have to pay the healthcare fee to Kela.

- If there is a fee for the study right, you will receive a bank transfer slip with the decision from the faculty. You need to follow the instructions for the payment. Only after the payment is done the study right will be entered into the study register.

Registration for current students

Cancelling the registration
- You can inform the Student Centre Disco if you do not want to be registered as attending with the university during registration period (Autumn term 1.6.-31.8. and Spring term 1.12.-15.1.). Please remember to tell your student number or Finnish ID code in your message to Disco.
- After that your registration will not be entered automatically, and you'll have to contact the Student Centre Disco for re-registration. However, there will be no re-registration fee.
You need to be registered as an attending student at your home university to be able to study with your JOO study right at the University of Turku.

- Information on visiting studies
- You will receive bank transfer slip with the decision from the faculty. You need to follow the instructions for payment. Only after the payment is done, the study right will be entered into the study register.

Studies at continuing education and training programmes at the University of Turku are not entered into Peppi system (e.g. Brahea Centre). These units have their own study register systems.
Student union membership and student card
- Student Union membership is compulsory for undergraduate students and voluntary for PhD and exchange students (Universities Act 558/2009, 46§)
- Other students are not eligible to join the Student Union. Therefore students in non-degree studies are not allowed to join the Student Union or to get a student card.
