The focal points of gender studies are discourses of gender’s historical, cultural, and social relations. Gender is examined in relation to other identity defining differences, for example, sexuality, nationality, ethnicity, race, age, disability, and body size.
Each year we organise project courses, where our students can work together with different museums and cultural heritage operators.
Disability in the Modern World is a database for disability studies and also for the history of the disability rights movement. The content is interesting in several subjects point of view, such as education, advocacy and rights, legislation and politics, media, arts, sports, culture, race, sexuality, gender, war, industry and technology.
The activities in TUCEMEMS are led by an executive board appointed by the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities. The members of the executive board are teachers and researchers working within the University of Turku. They represent a variety of the research fields covered by TUCEMEMS.
Screen Studies is a dynamic digital platform taking users from script to screen and beyond – offering a broad range of content from Bloomsbury and Faber & Faber to support moving-image studies.
The library offers dozens of trials of new resources every year. Test and effect - the collected feedback of the trials affects the acquisition decisions of the resources. You can find the trials on our web pages and we advertise them in social media.

The Turku Centre for Medieval and Early Modern Studies (TUCEMEMS) is a multidisciplinary research centre funded by the University of Turku. The centre provides support for and advances research activities examining different historical time periods, ranging from late antiquity to the latter part of the 18th century.
