Sea and maritime studies is one of the six strategic profiles at the university of Turku. It involves research and education on marine, coastal and river environments and maritime culture, communities and livelihoods. The management and regulation of maritime and coastal activites require research-based knowledge on sea and maritime topics. Our research topics include natural processes and environmental changes, transport networks, and safety and security questions as well as futures studies, which is interweaved in regulatory, political and business research.
The Steering Group for Sustainable Development at The University of Turku develops, monitors and evaluates the sustainable development activities of the University in relation to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and promotes the realisation of the principles of sustainable development in the practical activities of the University.
