Biography

I have worked as a university teacher in the department of Italian at the University of Turku since January 2010. I have been a member of Italian kielen ja kulttuurin seura ry (Association of Italian Language and Culture) since 2010 and I have served in various roles in the association’s board. The association works closely with the department of Italian and its main task is to promote knowledge of the Italian language and culture through dynamic publishing activities.

Teaching

My teaching responsibilities include mainly courses related to language knowledge and translation (e.g. grammar, phonetics, translation Italian-Finnish, authorized translation). In addition to this, I teach basic research skills and act as the second supervisor of master's theses.

Research

I am writing my doctoral dissertation about Finnish travellers’ images of Italians in the second half of the 19th century. The aim of the study is to analyze the images that Finnish travellers have about Italians and to compare how they differ from the images of other European travellers and Italians themselves. The research is imagological in nature, that is, it focuses on the analysis of discursive representations of national characters and on the problematic related to the notion of national character.
