Biography
As a doctoral researcher in the Landscape Studies program at Turku University, my research centres on the emotional impacts of plastic waste within the city of Turku. Despite the systematic design of urban landscapes in the Nordic countries, aimed at minimizing the sensibility of plastic waste through efficient waste management systems, plastic continues to be a predominant material in consumer products found on supermarket shelves and in stores.
In this context, I am particularly focused on the extent to which plastic waste remains perceptible in Turku's cityscape. My research employs participatory methods within landscape studies, integrating arts-based research, sensory ethnography, and phenomenology. Delving into the affective human-environment interactions within the scope of plastic waste, this interdisciplinary approach allows for a thorough exploration of how plastic influences urban experiences and emotional responses.
With a background in Arts Management, Performance Studies, and Visual Culture, I bring a diverse perspective to my research. Previously, I have investigated the aesthetics of microplastics in artworks, pointing out their subtle integration into natural elements such as air, water, and earth.
