Research

In the field of history, my research interests have focused geographically on European history, especially the Baltic and the North Seas Region, the Nordic countries, Germany and the Netherlands. Regarding historical periods and themes, I have specialized in Early Modern period, history of international relations and diplomacy, maritime history and development of modern states system. Concerning Finnish history, it is also worth mentioning that I have familiarized with the history of Scout movement in Southwest Finland.

In my ongoing Doctoral dissertation project I am focusing on the control of the Danish Straits and especially the Sound (in swedish Öresund) region in the history of international relations in the Baltic and the North Seas region during the 17th century. I approach the subject by examining the role of dutch-born entrepreneur Louis De Geer in the maritime conflict concerning the control of the Sound and his agency during the war between Sweden and Denmark 1643-1645.
