Areas of expertise
Biography
Since graduating as a medical laboratory technologist in 1999, I have enjoyed working with nucleic acids in different molecular biology services: the Centre for Biotechnology (Turku Bioscience), the Finnish Functional Genomics Centre, and currently at the Genomics laboratory of Turku University Hospital/TYKS.
In addition, I have studied languages and touched different fields of biosciences, accumulating some degrees along the way: authorized translator (English to Finnish, specialty: biology and medicine) in 2005, Master of Health Care in 2011 and Master of Arts (French translation) in 2014.
In 2022, I defended my PhD thesis Hyperemesis gravidarum. Incidence, recurrence, hospitalizations, outpatient care and effect on family planning.
I live in Turku with my husband and our two children.
Research
In my PhD research project I studied the incidence, contributing factors, measurement and treatment of hyperemesis gravidarum (severe nausea and vomiting of pregnancy, ICD-10 O21).
Currently I'm researching non-invasive prenatal testing in a pilot study jointly administered by the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and the Genomics laboratory of Turku University Hospital/TYKS.
