Research
The redox status of the photosynthetic electron transport chain
(PETC) is a very sensitive indicator of fluctuations in surrounding environmental conditions. Changes in the PETC
redox state result in change in production rate of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and other
metabolites which react with nearby lipids and proteins, thus giving rise to a
signal. Photosynthetic signals can modify gene expression in the chloroplast
and in the nucleus, in order to help the plants to acclimate their changed
environment.
My research involves use of transcriptomic analysis and fluorescence to elucidate the signaling mechanisms involved in plant acclimation to environmental fluctuations.
