Biography

MD (2006), PhD (2015), specialist in pediatrics (2017). Currently working as a clinical lecturer in pediatrics at university of Turku, and as a pediatrician in subspecialty training in pediatric hematology/oncology at the department of pediatrics and adolescent medicine in Turku university hospital.

Teaching

I have been working as a clinical lecturer in pediatrics since Jan 2018.

Research

My thesis in 2015 focused on cardiovascular health and fitness after childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (supervised by prof. Harri Niinikoski and adjunct prof. Jukka Kemppainen), and since then, I have continued working on late effects of childhood cancer and its treatment. My main research project is MiLLi-C (Microbiota, Later Life, Cancer), which I run together with MD, PhD Anu Huurre (collaborators professor Erika Isolauri, professor Seppo Salminen, docent Päivi Lähteenmäki). My main areas of interest are the effects of childhood cancer and its treatment on metabolic and cardiovascular diseases, physical activity and general health later in life. The current project aims at elucidating e.g. the effect of gut microbiota on immunological recovery and later health after cancer in childhood.
