Biography
I am Senior Researcher working on a project investigating risks and risk factors for dementia. Outside of University of Turku, I have honorary contracts and collaborate with colleagues at Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (Finland) and Division of insurance Medicine, Karolinska Institutet (Sweden).
Teaching
I have a Post-graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching (2017) and am Associate Fellow of the United Kingdom Higher Education Academy.
In the past, I have taught a number of post-graduate modules on research methods and statistics, and as a Stream Advisor been in charge of the structure, content and assessment of the Health Services Research Stream within the MSc Public Health, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, London, UK. In addition, I have taught lectures and seminars on approaches and statistical methods for meta-analysis, and supervised 10 MSc Public Health dissertations. I am interested in supervising PhD projects in projects related to my research interests, e.g. multimorbidity, register researh and evidence synthesis.
Research
My research focuses on using multi-source data from healthcare and population registers, clinical audits and longitudinal observational studies to examine risks, determinants and outcomes of multimorbidity across the life course. Other examples of my work include examining the health effects of psychosocial stress and vascular surgical interventions, using large sets of individual-level data from several European countries, including Finland, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
