Biography

I am working as a Doctoral Researcher at the Department of Geography and Geology at University of Turku, as a part of Sustainability Transformations Doctoral Education Pilot (SusTra). I study sustainable management of cultural heritage using landscape approach in Europe and Africa. I have a master’s degree in archaeology with a focus on geospatial methods. Since 2016, I have worked in a number of archaeological projects in both academia and private sector in Finland. Since 2022 I have also worked in several research projects in Greece.

Research

My doctoral research focuses on holistic risk assessment and sustainable management of cultural heritage in dynamic landscapes. Cultural heritage is a knowledge depository and an important part of building our identities. However, current management practices are ill-equipped to respond to the challenges posed by the modern, rapidly changing world. In my PhD project, I use a landscape approach to research managing cultural heritage in its broader context, as a part of a dynamic human-nature system. I use data from multiple sources, from participatory methods to geospatial, and archaeological and historical data as well as novel geospatial methods based on GeoAI.
