Several Coronavirus Infections among Students in Turku

In the last few days, the higher education institutions in Turku have been informed of several coronavirus infections especially among international students. Health officials are conducting contact tracing. The number of infections is so high that extensive exposures and infections have taken place among students, for example, in joint accommodation.

– If you are experiencing symptoms or have an even slight suspicion of an infection, you should get tested for the coronavirus right away. If you suspect that you have been exposed to the virus in this epidemic cluster, we recommend staying in voluntary quarantine immediately and getting tested for the coronavirus. This is very important, urges Chief Physician for Infectious Diseases Jutta Peltoniemi from the City of Turku.

Increased coronavirus communications will be directed at students, reminding them of the importance of using face masks and of the tier 2 closure currently in force in Southwest Finland, during which minimising all contacts is important. A remote info session will be organised for the international students on Thursday, 18 March. Guidance has also been increased in the communications of the Study in Turku initiative of the City of Turku and the higher education institutions, both on the website and social media.
