Rector of the University of Turku Marjo Kaartinen has appointed the deans of the faculties for a five-year term starting on 1 January 2025.
Rector Marjo Kaartinen appointed the deans after consulting the faculty councils and the chair of the University Board. Professors appointed as the deans for the five-year term starting on 1 January 2025:
- Faculty of Education, Professor Marjaana Veermans
- Faculty of Humanities, Professor Marja-Liisa Helasvuo
- Faculty of Law, Professor Janne Salminen
- Faculty of Medicine, Professor Pekka Hänninen
- Faculty of Science, Professor Petriina Paturi
- Faculty of Social Sciences, Professor Elina Mainela-Arnold
- Faculty of Technology, Professor Jaakko Järvi
- Turku School of Economics, Professor Markus Granlund.
The dean leads the faculty and is responsible, among other things, for the development of the faculty and for the economic, efficient and effective discharge of the faculty’s mission. The deans are also members of the University's Management Group.
“The appointed professors form a multidisciplinary team with a strong strategic vision. I believe that they are capable of creating excellent conditions for the development of our high-quality research and education, and for the well-being of our community. Deans also play a key role in developing co-operation with partners and networks outside the faculties,” says Rector Kaartinen.
Earlier in September, Rector Kaartinen appointed the vice rectors of the University of Turku for a five-year term. Professors Maija Peltola, Tapio Salakoski and Piia Seppänen will start their terms as vice rectors on 1 January 2025.
