The QS Sustainability Rankings 2025 listed a total of 1744 universities according to sustainability and responsibility criteria. The University of Turku improved its international ranking from 303 to 252, despite a significant increase in the number of universities included in the ranking from the previous year.
The QS Sustainability Ranking focuses on three categories, namely environmental impact, social impact, and governance (ESG). In the overall performance ranking, the weightings of the categories are 45% for environmental and social impact and 10% for governance.
A total of 1744 universities were included in the 2025 ranking, of which 556 were located in Europe and 10 in Finland. The overall ranking of the University of Turku improved in all comparison groups: the international ranking improved by 51 places (2025: 252nd). The ranking among European universities improved by 24 places (2025: 117th). Nationally, the University of Turku was ranked fourth.
The University of Turku improved its performance in eight of the eleven indicators assessed in the ranking. The University ranked highly in indicators assessing educational impact (ranked 26th) and governance (ranked 53rd). However, there is still room for improvement, particularly in the areas of environmental education and reporting on employability and opportunities.
